Mockingjay

Jennifer Lawrence, stunning and beautiful as always.

She never disappoints in every role she plays, especially as Katniss Everdeen in her new movie, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.

In Mockingjay, it's more on revolution and war. Two of my favorite conflicts in a book. I was afraid that the movie's going to ruin the book or the other way around.

But nope. No, no, no. The movie was spectacular! I went out of the cinema with goosebumps running up my arms because the production brought justice to the trilogy of Suzanne Collins.

Adelina Amouteru

Adelina is the protagonist in Marie Lu's new book, The Young Elites. She's a teenager in the 13th century, daughter of an aristocrat, who was infected by the blood fever along with her mother and younger sister, Violetta.

Their mother died because she was an adult while the two of them survived. Violetta retained her beauty while Adelina's black hair turned silver and lost her left eye. She's been treated horribly by their father because she's what they would call a malfetto; children who have been infected by the fever who had strange markings. Some malfetto's are known to have extraordinary gifts, some out of this world, but they're considered a threat by the country. They're know as the Young Elites. Adelina is a Young Elite who the Dagger Society, a group of Young Elites, see as someone who's got great potential but also as a great threat for she's got powers no one has ever seen before.

Adelina's past is full of darkness. She's one of those protagonist who's got the strangest behaviors, thoughts and personality. She's a sadist, a coward in a way and disoriented. She doesn't know who to trust, where she belongs. Who can blame her? She's been disowned by her own family, of course she'd have trust issues.

The greatest thing about Adelina's character and Marie Lu's writing is that Adelina is someone who's often confused and mislead. The way the story is narrated, you get into her thoughts and feelings. And I feel for her, honestly. When I read the book, in her POV, I was afraid, confused and slightly disturbed. In short, her choices and thoughts caused me to react.Let's just say my emotions were out of control. Her thoughts are not the same as June, the protagonist from Marie Lu's Legend Trilogy. She's more complex in regards to choices, who to trust and her feelings being a teenager with ranging hormones and almost having a perfect night with the young prince, Enzo.

She's beyond what I expected. She's definitely something else compared to famous protagonists like Katniss from The Hunger Games. She's not strong, she's not brave, she dwells and enjoys people's pains and fears. It fuels her energy. How sadistic is that? But she is powerful. Her power is dark and dangerous, even she can't control. Honestly she scares the soul out of me.

Champion Author

Veronica Roth

John Green

Suzanne Collins

Pittacus Lore.

All of these authors have one thing in common. Well, a lot. They're geniuses, they're amazing, they write books for this generation, best selling authors and their works are on the big screen. I love these four people. They took me to a world that's entirely different from our own, made me fall in love with mind blowing, powerful characters and....

They kill them.

Very evil of them, not cool! This is why books break my heart more than people.

What's worse is introducing a really beautiful, smart, sarcastic, brave and powerful character in the series, have them suffer a terminal illness, read the whole series and suffering the same pain the character feels, let the thought of them dying sink in  hurting us more but in the end they manage to live but forget the people they love. Bittersweet ending.

I'm talking to you, Marie Lu. The author of the Legend Series who made me suffer a roller coaster of emotions all throughout the series, typical of sci-fi authors to do this, but gave a rather beautiful ending. Seriously, the 3rd book, Champion, best frigging 3rd book I've read. Beautiful plot, so much emotions, unforgettable dialogs and quotes, amazing characters, definitely lovable and no great character gets killed off...

We need more authors like her in the world, honestly.

When One Becomes 'Legend'

The title makes perfect sense because this series is literally Legend! Marie Lu is a genius!

It's plot is set 150 years from today. Two very different people born in two different sectors meet and later do they realize that no matter how different they are, they're still so alike based on their principles, their intellect and their capacity love and forgive.

I read the first book when I was in first year but the story's stuck in my head for almost 3 years already, all the events fresh as if I've just read it yesterday. Its a love story, yes, but something's present in this book that stood out from the other recent books I've read: patriotism.

Ive never fell in love with a book and cried over it like I have with this one. Its not the typical fiction books with their female protagonist you have to worry about whether she'll make it till the end or wait for her to do something. The characters are strong willed and smart and they're fighting for their lives, sacrificing everything they have for the Republic.

I am so done reading books with lame, weak female characters because honestly, what do you get from them? The same misery? That's so sad.

Reading a book with strong women for protagonists motivates you. If they've gone through, dodging millions of gunshots or escaping prison or are misunderstood but they hold their ground and fight for what they believe in, it gets you thinking "if they can do all those then I can go on with this day.''

Yeah, yeah they're fiction. But fictions are based on reality but more creative and less boring.

Why Do I Idolize These People? [ Jennifer Lawrence ]

So this 'WHY DO I IDOLIZE THESE PEOPLE' post is sort of different.

She's not a YouTuber or a radio host for that matter or even the offspring of a famous footballer, No. She's an actress. I have no intentions on becoming an actress for that matter or anywhere in the film industry. If that were to happen, I'd be the one behind the camera or doing the post-production.

Jennifer Lawrence is a 24-year old American actor from Louisville, Kentucky. She came in my world when she played the character from a movie that was adapted from my favorite novel 2 years ago. The Hunger Games. She played the female protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, who's also the female tribute from an outcast district, District 12.

On screen, you'd see her as someone who's very professional. Well, in fact, she is. When it comes to acting, she's very professional and portrays the character very well but in reality, she's the biggest jester and most random woman I've known. That's why I idolize her.

Her randomness is out of this world. She's a professional actress who won her first Oscar when she was 22 yeas old and at the same time, a really outgoing and sarcastic human being. The best thing about her is that she does not deny who she is and she loves being herself at the same time an amazing actor. I might've mentioned that more than 5x but I can't emphasize it enough.

Story time! One time they were filming a really emotional scene in The Hunger Games. Before the started rolling, a cast member told a joke and that she laughed till her lungs fall out but when the director yells ACTION, she transforms into her Katniss-character in a heartbeat. WHAT? If that isn't what you call "talent" then I dont know what it is.

SHE'S FABULOUS, THAT'S NOT EVEN AN ARGUMENT!

Washified

Ever seen one of these babies? Yeah, they're ancient now.

Apple now has techy touch screen MP3 players but as the iPod revolves, I haven't changed my own 2008 nano iPod into the high-tech MP3 players most of my classmates have now.
I'm not complaining. It's kind of cool to have something, sort of, vintage. This baby's not colorful or can have games downloaded on, only music but very limited. Well, mine is. It's only a 8 or so gigabytes.

It's not a problem to have something people call "ancient" because someday, these things won't ever be seen in the face of the earth.

so. Out of boredom, I decided to beautify my old little iPod with the help of really pretty decorative tapes I got this Wednesday.

A little bit of tape here, tape there and plain old iPod is no more:

Seniors

I'm aware that in this time next year, we'll have to meet new people, be in different schools, adjusting to new environment but for now, I'm gonna enjoy high school while It lasts.

I hear people saying junior year is the best year? Screw that, senior year for the win!

It's only been 3 months into senior year and I'm enjoying myself more than the previous 3 years. There's less drama, more homework, more quizzes, more projects but most importantly, more fun.

Maybe because it's the last year we tend to make use of the short time we have left in school and focus more on the enjoyment it brings rather than the small problems we've had.

I've only realized this when I took the UPCAT yesterday. Reality hit me in the face with a bang.

Taking a college entrance exam reminds me that next year, some of us might be in the schools we applied in. Some, other schools we haven't heard of. Some, maybe just maybe, we won't see them for another 5 years because they're moving to different countries. How sad.

Nonetheless, we all have to keep going. No matter how sad the truth is that we're going to have to start over and say our temporary goodbyes to our High School friends, it's a chance for us to change and let go of the person we are now, if there's a need. A fresh start.

What about our friends?

Well, wise words from my father, we'll still see them in a few years.

And of course, "we'll meet new friends along the way. Better friends but never forget the friends that gave you the best years of your life"

The Future: Scary

While my friends are worrying about college, what course to take up, where to go to school, passing entrance exams, I'm here worrying about being a social awkward human being.

This time next year, I'm probably preparing myself for a new school environment outside of this country. If making friends with strangers in the Philippines is difficult, how can I make friends with people who are of different race?

Not being racist or anything.

As excited as I am to migrate, it's also frightening. The list of negative scenarios just floods my head everytime I think about it.

The future is frightening just thinking about it.

Why Do I Idolize These People? [ Jenna Marbles ]

Jenna Marbles... how do I even begin to explain Jenna Marbles? I don't freaking know. However, one word to describe her? Well there's one but it's a bad word so I'd rather not say it. Let's go with sassy.

She's the more extreme female version of Dan Howell. That's it. This woman has a masters degree in psychology! If that's not what you call smart, then I don't know what is. Her real name is Jenna Mourey. She loves her dogs so much, yes she does. Why wouldn't she? They are adorable! They appear in her youtube videos often.

Why do I idolize her, you ask? Well she's practically the most opinionated person I've come across in my whole life! She speaks what's in her head and even if she's very vulgar, her opinions actually make sense AND they're really powerful. It speaks about her and her only. Sometimes you have to think about your own opinion and question yourself. If she taught me anything, it would be:

Speak your effing mind.

Why Do I Idolize These People? [Brooklyn Beckham]

Okay, I know what you're thinking. How can I idolize someone who's been keeping a low profile all his life? I do not idolize David Beckham's eldest son. He's merely a celebrity crush but the first I had who's not older than me. Hah.

I won't say anything cheesy or long or why I have an imaginary relationship with this young lad. He's simply too good looking for a 15 year old. It is unacceptable! And he cares about his brothers and his little sister, that's too sweet. He's definitely fulfilling his big brother role.

He simply deserves a post on my blog. Now I'm going to move on with my life and you may stare at his photo for a while because I've already done that. Heh.

Why Do I Idolize These People? [Dan Howell]

More about a youtube star!

The sexy man I dedicate this post to is also an internet guru, I think. His name is Dan Howell. Let me brief you more on Dan.

Dan's full name is Daniel James Howell. He's a 23 year old British lad who started his channel, Danisnotonfire, a few years ago. It now has nearly 4 million subscribers from all over the world. He also hosts his own BBC Radio Show with a fellow YouTuber, flatmate and his best friend, Phil Lester. Phil also runs a YouTube channel,  AmazingPhil. A fellow YouTuber once commented "These two are controlling the internet". Not the exact words, but you get what I mean.

His videos are mainly about his personal life. He tells the internet about his greatest FAILURES. Yes, he actually does this. Every failure story he's told his viewers, he'd normally imply the message: I hope you learn from my mistakes or I hope my failures have helped make you feel better about yourself.

He's my favorite YouTuber, why? Because he tells us absolutely nothing educational. Well, not really. Not in the traditional vlogging sense, anyway. In a personal way, he has given me tips that I can actually use in real life and are influential. He's an influential young man but it's like he turns the negative things in his life into good ones that the public can benefit from. It's like he has secret smarts, how else would he come up with these anecdotes or whatever he does?

In general, we can relate to his experiences. Plus his stories are freaking hilarious. The words he use are
big but I'm not sure if they are proper most of the time.

He's unintentionally a philosopher, a therapist and a motivational speaker for this generation, that's what I'm trying to say.

Why Do I Idolize These People? [Jamie Curry]

An 18 year old girl from New Zealand has shaped my life. Not even joking.

Jamie Curry started her own Facebook page at the age of 16. She started off making funny memes that teenagers can relate to. Her Facebook page got popular so quickly. From her meme photos, it lead her to make hilarious, silly videos. This basically lead her in making her own YouTube channel JamiesWorld. Earlier this year, her channel hit 3 million subscribers.

Lets get into topic. This girl doesn't really care if she looks ridiculous all over the internet. She doesn't give a single hoot. If you check her page right now, you'll see what I'm talking about. This is why she's famous.

She's being real.

She does not pretend to be who she is but rather she goes full-on with who she is. No matter how ridiculous she looks, she goes for it. Her page is called JamiesWorld for a reason. She describes herself as a quiet and socially-awkward human being in real life, but in her internet life she's pretty peculiar. That just shows how what she really is in her head. In her world.

Why Do I Idolize These People? [INTRO]

Sometimes, I wonder how I get mixed up with these people or get
obsessed about them. I know I'll never meet them in person but there's nothing wrong with getting your hopes up, right?

Except maybe get disappointed and heartbroken that the closest you'll ever get to them is
through your computer screen.

sad.

So, fair warning, my next few posts will be about these people. I can say they have definitely changed my life.

Over the summer, I have been watching their videos and, wow, have they made an impact. Most of them are actually pretty pointless yet helpful. That does not make sense at all.

Anyway, Here we go!......

Gala Throwback

A not-so-instagram-worthy picture is blog worthy because no one really gives a crap about my blogposts.

8 years ago, I came to Assumption. Fresh from Colegio de San Jose 1st grader comes to Assumption Iloilo to learn and to acquire the so-called Assumption Education. Before, it was just meh. Now I realize how much Assumption has shaped me into the person who I am now.

I've made the best memories in Assumption from my First Confession, First Communion to my Confirmation and now? My senior year. The gala is a sacred clothing, as said by the nuns. The galas I've worn the past years also hold the memories of my Firsts in my Christian life.

More memories are to be made in this school and I'm sure they will be the best.

Gold and White and Blue

Because Assumption Day is coming up, we should get into the spirit!

Sr. Lourdes told us that our school takes Assumption Day very seriously. Duh, that's where the name of our school came from; Mary's Assumption.

August 14, we will celebrate the Vespers of the Assumption Feast. That's tomorrow. And a feast on the 15 for everyone in the Assumption! Exciting!

I'm looking forward to wearing my gala.  It's 4 years and I miss looking angelic.

Panulaton Experience

Last July, more than 3000 students from all over Western Visayas gathered for a journalism workshop by Silak in Punta Villa.

So, being a sort-of "wallflower", not really, I never really joined workshops or anything that required your mingling skills... Sigh. However, this year I wanted to make it count and that hopefully when I'm old and grey, I'd think back to my last year in high school and say "I've had the greatest year of my life"

To say the least, this was first ever workshop. It was held in Punta Villa Resort in their crown ballroom.

The ballroom's ceiling was so beautiful and ballroom looked so... Royal. That was my favorite part of the event, the ballroom'a ceiling. There was giant crown chandelier for crying out loud and the room was freaking cold, no joke.

I felt like I was back in England again.

My right hand after the first day was so destroyed. I haven't done so much writing in my life so that was an experience for me.

Another memorable experience is having lobby photoshoots at nearly 12 midnight. Regardless of how tired we were, we still smiled and had 2AM pizza deliveries from Alberto's and watched a movie till our eyelids can no longer open. Fun.

The 2 day workshop was exhausting. Plus the following Wednesday we had our Mastery Tests so no rest for us, I guess. But yes, it was so much fun.

Especially since most of my fellow Orange Jews were there, it was a BLAST.

Welcome Back, Sci-Fi Nerd!

Sci-Fi is cool. Yes it is, it's very cool.

I'd consider myself a nerd and a bookworm especially when I get too engrossed in a series.

7 years ago, I loved reading about mystery.

A couple years later, silly childish 'Diaries' like Dork Diaries or Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

But past is past and I find myself loving science fictions or even dystopian-like series. So what series now?

I Am Number Four Series.

The series follow John Smith, a 16-year old alien from planet Lorien, sent to earth along with 8 others to fight a Great War against a ruthless race of aliens, the Mogadores.

Reading series took me a to different world. This time, not a world where the protagonist lives in a slum or grew up in a military or finding the true place where they belong, no. This story took me to Paradise, Ohio in a powerful Alien's point of view who's developing his powers to win a war to save his planet.

A different plot from other sci-Fi books I've read but it's a book that's impossible to put down.

This is the first time I've read anything 'alien' related. Surprisingly, I fell in love with the series the same as I fell in love with Divergent or even Hunger Games. There are 4 books that have been published but 3 more books are yet to come out.

Exciting! :)

Our School is Prettier Than Yours

When did our school suddenly get pretty?

Maybe the longer we stay, the closer we're to leave, we learn to appreciate our surroundings more.

For us 4th years, we are so close to leaving Assumption Iloilo. 9 months more to go to complete our Assumption Education.

#buffering

Daisies

The first thing that really amazed me when I went to England 3 years ago were the daisies that just bloomed on the grass. Im not sure if they're really daisies. But they're really pretty.

Sunday Chill Day

Sunday.
Yes this post is all about my weekly Sunday agenda. Its not much to be honest. I'm not a very productive person. I'd rather be in my room all day than interact with our neighbors.
Yes that's how antisocial I am.
My normal Sunday goes like this:

+Wake up at 10 or even later

+have ''brunch'' then go back to my room; go on wattpad or sleep

+stay there until 3 or 4 then go to church

+(If i didnt go to church that week) go downstairs for at least 10 minutes

+Go back upstairs

+Have dinner

+Do homework if I have

+Twitter, Facebook, stalk my favorite youtubers
Go to sleep at 10

And that's the end of my Sunday. As you can see, human interaction is not on the list.
But today was different  than my usual Sunday routine.
I went biking today!
After mass, I wanted to go for a walk but we live in a somewhat dangerous neighborhood and it's unsafe to walk on your own. I borrowed my neighbors bike and explored the neighborhood I've been living in for 10 years. It was just as refreshing as a stroll and it helps clear the head.
Sadly i don't own a bike so I can't go biking whenever I want.

2nd Grade Kaaway

Say hi to 2nd grade kaaway who surprisingly became one of my longest friends!

I remember we used to pull each other's hair in line and shout in each other's faces after recess. I admit I was a female dog even as a new student. In the end we became friends through having a CR reconciliation

High School: Reality VS Expectations

I hate myself for being so naive. Why did I ever think high school's just like those shows on TV where everything is fun and exciting? In reality, High school is a stage in your life where you get judged for being different. If you dont have your own group of friends you, gosh you'll never make it through the dreadful 4 years.

You can't be friends with everyone like in elementary school.

You can't do anything without getting worried about being judged.

You have to be extra careful of the words coming out of your mouth or it will be held against you.

High school is emotionally stressful.

Every Morning..

That perfect moment where your sleep is actually really good and then your alarm goes off...

My bed begs me to stay every morning. But no, I have to get up and go to school so I'll actually mount to something 15 years from now.

I love my bed so much and Im really tired... i dont know what to blog about anymore.

That Time Of The School Year

After spending 10 months in the classroom, cramming, procratination, meeting deadlines, stressing ourselves over exams, passing projects, sleepless nights and hours long of practices for presentation,

SUMMER IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!

Screw 'Bikini' Season. I'm going to sleep for a week and eat all the food I want, stay up late without cramming for the quizzes and homework for the following day!

Look alive students, ladies and gents, Summer is near!

Lots and Lots of Chocolates

I'm still a child..

And every child loves chocolate...

Especially the cute colorful ones... Specifically M&Ms!

It's not a famous landmark in England like the Stonehenge but it's what I came for. The moment you enter the building, yes it's a building, you can smell the sweet scent of chocolate!

It reminded me of Charlie in the Chocolate Factory the moment I came in. M&M's were everywhere of every kind! 4 glorious floors of merchandises and CHOCOLATE.

What more can a kid ask for?

Throwback To Bunjing Days

Back when we ignored the rest of the world and we lived in our own little bubble! :)

My First Time Bowling

So the first time, I went bowling last summer, this happened. The floor was slippery to be honest. I was really tired that day. We just got back from Portsmouth and it was freezing outside.

The odd thing about me is that when I'm tired, that's when I get too hyper that I end up acting really crazy!

And well, this happened.

We Need a Break!

Everyone deserves a break, you know?

Even us learners? We also have our deadlines to meet, projects to pass, exams to study for...

It's fair to say, we are stressed. But a little more tolerance because summer break is almost here!

McDonalds Banquet

It's been a while we had our McDonalds meal together. Not really all of us but with our 'Jewish' group. We were stuck in school because of our little siblings' concert practices so we decided to have a 'banquet' in McDonalds.

Thank you, Miss Singbenco for allowing us to fill out empty stomachs that day! :)

Ironically Called 'Jews'

    ORANGE JEWS 2013

You wanna know something ironic?

Our group is called Orange Jews

BUT.....

11 are Catholics, 1 is an Adventist... Yet we refer to ourselves as Jews.

But we all love Jesus so what's the difference.

Invisible

You keep your personalities and attitudes to yourself... You try to be reserved so you don't get hurt or you dont want to hurt anyone because of who you are. But time doesn't stop, it only goes one way and sometimes the things we realize are a bit too late to change... And no one really cares anymore

Intramurals Throwback

For three years straight, I've been out in the same tribe, not that I mind.
This year, tribe D's name was Sorbs, a tribe in Germany.

I'll keep this short.

We didnt win a lot. We lost in almost all the games and being fourth was not surprising since the year before we also lost. The only difference this year is that we didnt take everything too seriously.

Instead, we enjoyed the week long intramurals. The last day, the awarding, we didnt take it too hard because we know what's going to happen. Because of this we learned how to value the little things and the little awards we got even if they were only 3rd place.

None of us really felt like we lost because we had so much fun this intramurals. Even during practices, we enjoyed every second of it...

Photo 1-B Throwback

The summer of 2012, I went to West Visayas State University to take up a summer class in basic photography. Since it was Basic, I expected a lot of my classmates of my age or at least in high school.

Well, great expectations lead to great disappointments. Most of my classmates were professionals. And then there's me. A kid whose only turning 14 that year.

Honestly I felt left out being the only child there. I didnt talk to anyone because I couldn't relate at all. I spent 4 hours in the classroom trying not to fall asleep because of pure boredom, typical classroom vibes. All of them talked about their careers and their families and I'm sitting there with a thought "I just started High School, alright"

But being a student as a 'career' has advantages. I've been used to classroom stuff all year and it's like nothing has changed. I still sit in class taking down notes, listen to my teacher and participate in discussions. The only difference was I was surrounded by adults as classmates!

At the end of the semester, I didnt regret going anyway. Yes I was younger, a lot younger, than all of them but, hey, I got an award ;)

Eleanor and Park

ELEANOR AND PARK
by Rainbow Rowell

....................................................

I took a time off reading books for a while. It's been a few months since I've had my nose up in science fictions, love stories and tragic romances. I've been pretty much too busy in school and such..

Last week, I finished this book called Eleanor and Park.
First of all, I'm the one of those people who "Judges the book by its cover". Usually, I end up reading a crappy book with a wonderful cover because of my attitude. But somehow, this book caught my attention. It's a simple white paperback book with a simple cover but it's beautiful in a way. Of course being an Assumptionist since the 2nd grade, I've been living by the quote "Simplicity is truth". Yeah I learned how to appreciate the simple things in life...

Anyway the book is your typical teenage love story. I know, Im not the one who fancies cliche love stories with the same plot as any other book but this one is somehow unique. Most books have their protagonists as the typical nice girl falling for a varsity player or the weird nerdy girl who falls for this guy who ends up getting hurt, nope.

The main protagonist is an insecure young girl named Eleanor who's seen as a weirdo. Eleanor is mainly insecure because of her body, being overweight, her face covered with freckles, her untamed bright red curly hair and her her odd fashion sense. And Park, a quirky Asian who's almost like a wallflower. His biggest insecurity is having the 'Asian' look.

Mainly this book deserves a spot in my blog because it's the first book I've read in a loooong time. Not really but in a while. Somehow it's a bit cliche but it's not predictable, most of the time.

This story taught me that it's better to be hated for who you are than be loved for what you're not.

It Was Valentines Day (Field Trip Part 2)

No more mud, no more dirt, no more mangroves, no more work...
Few stops along the way like getting a glimpse of the hundred year old mangroves (not really), and having our lunch at Terra Verde.
A tiring day but we made the most of it..

I mean, when do we get the chance to get out of the city?

And did I mention it was Valentines Day?

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY <3
